In the last week in August Erice celebrates its holy patroness "Our Lady of Custonaci". The tradition involves the setting up of votive altars in Erice's typical courtyards, the procession of the statue through its winding streets, the fireworks and, in recent years, the reconstruction of a medieval pageant.
Festivities for "Our Lady of Custonaci", the holy patroness of Erice, represent an event of great historical value deeply felt by the entire local population, who participates in mass. It reaches its climax on the last Wednesday in August, but it is preceded by several complementary events, such as the setting up of characteristic votive altars in courtyards all over Erice and the reconstruction of a medieval pageant.
